Said in cute kitten voice: "In emergency room cos my spay stitch opened and my abdominal wall has prolapsed out of my belly. Vet says I'll be ok even tho it looks horrible. PS: Can the Redford family get a break after the last 3 weeks full of animal emergencies / tragedies?"
Welcome to the family, Matilda. Your lil' brother Cosmo is a bit ruffled that you like his feather toy so much, but we'll make it work. 😻

Lola, I've never known a dog like you. Protective, loving, funny and gentle... our home feels empty without you here tonight. You "doing your nails", your "dancey-dances", your nightly excitement for dinner, your patience with Rex... I just don't know how to process that you're gone. Your valiant and guarding presence next to us is still felt in spite of your departure. You closed your beautiful eyes today and our family's hearts are broken. Rest well, dear sweet Lola. 💙
Just found a photo I took in 2015 that I might have shared once before from the @eastbaypunk documentary production. Our small crew had arrived at Iggy's home to record his narration for our film the morning after his birthday party. When he groggily entered his living room, he kindly greeted us and then promptly went to take a shower while we set up sound & video equipment. I have a lot of memorable stories from that day, but a moment that stands out to me was this photo. Right before we settled in to 10 hours of recording, Iggy brought out some of his favorite books from San Francisco publishers to share with us. He kindly asked if I wanted to take pictures of him with the books. This was the first one I took.

Tonight, when I heard it was ending, I started to cry. My Dad's old girlfriend Robbie used to sneak her MAD Magazines to me at the house we briefly lived in together in Viewpointe in Rodeo, CA in the mid-80s. My Dad used to call MAD "disgusting trash" and puritanically demanded Robbie get rid of all her copies. Thankfully, she didn't listen to him. I remember going to a friend's house and seeing that his parents let him read it freely. I was so shocked and stoked at the same time. I soaked up issue after issue when I visited his home. I knew, at it's core, MAD was about sharing ideas and exposing truth through comedy and illustration. I'm pretty sure MAD was my 1st exposure to true satire. Aragones, Martin, Jaffee, Davis, Drucker, Berg, and rest of the Usual Gang of Idiots brought so many new thoughts and images into my young brain. MAD hit me like Marvel Comics did. Like Rock N' Roll did. Like Broadway did. It changed me. It changed how I saw the world. "If you can't laugh at yourself, we'll do it for you", "Just because we're funny, doesn't mean we're joking" and "We're serious about our silliness" all became the mottos and creeds of the various bands, troupes and projects I was eventually involved with over the next many decades. I can trace it all back to hiding out in the bathroom with a forbidden copy of MAD. One thought keeps crossing my mind: "Who the fuck wants to live in a world where MAD isn't there to take the piss out of everything that deserves it?" Thank you, Robbie. Thanks for everything, Alfred. 💔
Lil' Homie is here to party. 💥
Sometimes, if we are lucky, our friends can also be considered our family. Out here with my sister from another mister Stephanie seeing the Avengers: Endgame re-release!
We built a Forky!🥄
A visit with Grandpa today in Smartsville, CA meant Rex's first ride on a three-wheeler. He dug it! ⭐
Happy Birthday to the prettiest, sweetest, smartest and strongest person I know. Rex and I love you so much and we hope you have a great birthday weekend! 🎂
Ok, sue me. Posting because I'm proud of this drawing Rex made of Forky this morning. He usually chooses to scribble, but this is one of the first attempts I've seen him make to draw. Encouraging him to practice if he decides he digs the activity. 💥
Rex and Lenny. 🐕💕🧒
At the Pinole Car Show and Rex asked me to buy him this hat so he could "rep the hardest city in the Bay". Totally his words not mine, I swear! 🤣🤞 @realbayareamemes
3 letter answer from @tiffanyhaddish this morning and now I'm freaking out.
Just said goodbye to this beautiful, strong and majestic boy. Hambone the Cat went through so much hardship before we took him in - I don't want to focus on it too much, but yeah, his early life was impacted by horrible humans. Over time, in spite of his defenses, he softened with us and wound up being such a loving and charismatic cat. Part of the pain of losing you, Ham, is knowing how much you should have never trusted a human again due to your past experiences... and we are so grateful that you chose to trust us to be your new family. Our home isn't the same without you. Our hearts are aching over your departure. We will always remember the joy you gave us. Say hello to the stars, Sweet Ham. We will miss you always. <3
Last post out of me after yesterday's El Sobrante Anti-Nazi rally. Just wanted to share a little about Rex's experience and how I tried to navigate things with him. I arrived at the event at 4pm and went full-bore into participating. At 5pm, I needed to leave to pick up Rex from his preschool down the block. I picked him up and as I was buckling him into his carseat, I told him where I had been. That a man that lived nearby believed the same things that the Captain America Nazi/Hydra villain Red Skull believed - Rex understood that reference, so I went with it - and that this man had built a gross monument to bad and evil things. I told my son that this man could not hurt us because his heart was weak. That this Nazi man believed that people who are different than him should hurt and be treated unfairly simply because they different: because of their skin, the way they look, because of the things they believe in. Rex said, "That's stupid. I don't like this bad man. I want to throw a rock at him." I told him that I was mad too, but I went there not to throw rocks, but to stand with other people that believed in kindness to raise our voices and show this bad man that we don't like what he is doing and what he stands for. Rex says, "Can we go back? I want to yell at him and tell him to go away and go live in a cave far, far away." "We can do that if you want to.", I said, "I know you're tired after school." "Yeah, dad. I want to go. Can we get nuggets after?" "Yeah, buddy. We can get nuggets after. I love you, kid. I'm proud of you."
If you and your kid are gonna be on the news, it might as well be to call Nazis "gross". Whatta weird evening. I was given a megaphone by organizers because they thought I had a "strong voice", so of course the news outlets corner me to ask me questions. I'm just glad they spoke to the well-spoken organizers also. Feels pretty good to have seen so many Contra Costa County folks standing together against hate. The Nazi Landscaper now says he'll remove it "if people pay me for the work to remove it, plus a little more. Everyone has a price." I'd say GoFundMe, but fuck that... more like GoFuckYourself. 🤜💩🤛
Rex showed up to help us get rid of the Nazi trash. ❤
Papa's Day lunch with my favorite lady and my favorite kid. ❤
I hear you, Lil' Dude.
