***Not so patiently waiting for the record of my ‘Past Life No. 2’ to be framed. ⏳ Neu Decade Neu (fra )Me
A long goodbye to my Mother who battled progressive #MS for most of my of life and lived in a nursing home since I was in 7th grade. I have always felt embarrassed and ashamed, not even telling close friends unless it couldn’t be avoided in conversation. I feel relief, guilt, anger and mostly grief over lost time and compromises. From the onset my Mother’s wild and courageous spirit in addition to her disease, #multiplesclerosis made me an outsider (call me ponyboy ), other, outcast, outlander, (was even called a witch once ), etc. in the small town where we lived. Eventually I accepted and took solace in being alone. I knew at a very young age that I was an artist, because I thought, ‘artists are not accepted and live on the fringe of society’. From this slow moving tragedy, I gained a defense through art as a therapy to ward off suffering and get through this thing called life. Although this disease made me feel alone- I can see now that it affects millions of people. I’m very grateful for the many relatives and community members who came to my family’s aid these past 25 years. Their perseverance and humility are truly saint-like. I’m also inspired by my Mother’s obstinance in the face of her biggest fear- losing control. I can’t imagine what she felt being trapped inside her body, eventually losing the ability to communicate via blinking, but she was not alone at the end. I’m certain she is resting in peace.

I fainted, lying down, convulsed for 30 seconds before waking up to strange faces holding me down. I couldn’t remember who I was. -2011 —————————————— #faintdrawing #faintvisions #crystaldyer #vasovagal Faint Drawing Folder Ink & Graphite on paper, photographs, bandaid. Dimensions variable.
Falling back to a project I did many moons ago. #FaintDrawing I recorded the gesture of my own unconscious fall, using graphite powder on my head. I have #vasovagal syncope episodes when I see blood, usually when I have blood drawn. Initially, these fainting spells were sparked by a traumatic event in my childhood when I watched my mother have a blood transfusion. I am very afraid of fainting, but there is a strange, almost guilty pleasure I take from it. The act of fainting for me is a way to escape. When I faint, I have fainting dreams or visions. Many times these dreams are frightening and usually deal with my memory, forgetting who I am or what I should be doing. ———————————————- #crystaldyer #faintvisions #performanceart #conceptualart 16mm transferred to video. @chateau_orquevaux #friendships 🌊 ‘Past Life No. 10’ I was a young man (20s ) on a beautiful rotting wood ship. The wood of the ship was rotting, however, the sails were a ghostly off-white suspended in the warm breeze. I was in a pirate or Buccaneer crew. I learned the value of friendship. I wore a white puffy long-sleeve shirt that covered my very tanned normally white, skin. There was a wooden plank. The water was a clear greenish blue color. It felt tropical, like the Caribbean. I looked over the side of the ship at night. The water flowed from small lighted ship windows. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ink on handmade paper. ‘Past Life No. 4’ I woke up in a Black Forest with bushes and tall pine trees. I had a feeling that I was part of a Germanic tribe: (Alemanni or Visigoth 2nd-5th century ). I looked up through the branches of the trees and I was entranced by the beauty of the moon. I had long, thick, uncombed hair. I was wearing a skirt of brown fur. I knew I was a strong man, a hunter. I saw a bonfire with people around it. My newborn son was handed to me. I felt joyful. I saw myself die. I was fighting in a battle. A man slit my throat as he pushed me against a tree. He threw me and I fell into a ravine. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Ink on paper. Oil on linen. ‘Past Life No. 3’ Walking through a forest in the Northeast of America, I was a strong man. I wasn’t wearing a shirt. I had bright red paint on my arms and chest. (Red bands on my arms. ) I had long black hair. I walked over to a waterfall that fell on gray stones. My spirituality is derived from the peace and calm in this life. I walked up to the top of the hill and looked down on a valley. I felt powerful. ———————————————————————- Oil on linen. ‘Past Life No. 9’ I was an old woman sitting on a long, royal blue couch in the 1940s or 50s. I had worn hands. I was in the south of America- Louisiana (New Orleans ). I looked back over my life: it was hard. I worked as a maid. My name was Marie Jones. I saw myself dancing in a wooden dance hall. I wore a red, flowing dress. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Oil paint on Linen. ‘Past Life No. 2’ My second ‘Life’ was much better and is the most complete piece. I was an aristocrat 12-year-old girl in 1778 in France. I was at a fancy party. I looked down at my beautiful shoes. They had small flowers on the side. I looked up at gold crown moulding. I was in a small palace. Women had powdered wigs and large dresses. I saw how I died. I floated above and watched a woman in her thirties fall over in the street into a man’s arms. There were buildings around, however, it was a dirt road. My hypnotist asked how I died? I said, ‘Heart Attack’. +•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Embroidery, gold leaf, oil paint, graphite, and copper pipe on linen. ‘Past Life No. 1’ My first ‘Life’ during my first past life session was very intense. My hypnotist asked me to open my eyes and everything was dark. She said to ‘turn on the lights’. I was paralyzed with fear. I couldn’t move and I saw light from a fire flickering on wooden beams. I knew I was in New England in a Christian / Puritan church or building. My hypnotist asked if I wanted to see how I died in this life. I declined. I’ve never experienced such immense fear. >••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Oil on linen. My new/very old Past Life Project: I underwent three sessions of past life regression hypnosis, where I experienced ten past lives. Each piece is a past life. Some pieces are being worked through, while a few are fully formed. I will be sharing more details soon. I’m grateful for the time, space, and support of my residency at #ChateauOrquevaux and the generous spirits I met there. @thetaspringhypnosis #pastliferegression #pastlife #crystaldyer #crystaldyerartist #conceptualart
