@brothervellies x @pyermoss boots so good had to cut off my own head in the grid 👢 . Now that the boots got your attention 😉, since you’re on your phone right now I want you to think of one person in your contact list who is most likely to NOT register to vote and text them this: . Hey . Do you know who you’re voting for in November? . I actually just to checked to make sure I was registered at WhenWeAllVote.org. You should too. . *Then, follow up* . I had the honor of speaking alongside the powerhouse that is @tiffanydloftin Director of the @naacp Youth and College division who led this powerful call to action in real time yesterday. It underscored the power we ALL have to influence the people closest to us—more power than any celebrity, influencer, or presidential candidate. JUST ONE TEXT can start a conversation that can lead to changing the outcome for us all come Nov. I was so inspired that I had to share it with you. . Tag everyone in your most active group chat (you know the one 🔥 ) and get your people to do this!! I’m starting with mine: @brookechall @chloe_dulce @feibz @aurorajames @lynettesaid @rajni_jacques @nnadibynature #whenweallvote
Fam! I am beyond honored and thrilled to announce that today I am joining @michelleobama ’s organization @whenweallvote and taking on a new role as the Cultural Ambassador. . If you would have told 21-year-old-intern-me that one day I would have the incredible honor of serving Mrs. Obama’s organization in any capacity, I wouldn’t have believed it. And the truth is I wouldn’t have felt worthy. I didn’t come from a family that debated politics at the table or a community that prioritized the importance of civic engagement. Like most working families, mine was focused on working hard to support and love us so that my brother and I would have every opportunity to do what we love in life. But politics? Voting? Nah. Those topics seemed too intimidating, too boring—and frankly, irrelevant. . It wasn’t until I had the unforgettable opportunity to meet the soon-to-be #FLOTUS as an intern on the set of her @ebonymagazine cover that for the very first time I felt drawn into political conversations by someone I could see myself in, someone who made me feel that there was space for me. I spent that balmy 4th of July weekend in 2018 transcribing hours of conversations between Michelle Obama, her family, and my then-boss @harriettecole ( #tbt it was like reading the precursor to #Becoming ! ). That was the beginning of my own political awakening. . What the Obama’s did to reframe politics by meeting me where I was and engaging new voices on issues that effect us all, shifted how I viewed my own voice and responsibility in this world. I am excited to continue that legacy of shifting the conversation & culture around voting by working with leaders in the creative community. . We are facing one of the most critical elections in our lifetime and every single one of us has a responsibility to rally our community to the polls. Because closing the divide between voters and non-voters in this election cycle is on ALL OF US now. . #WhenWeAllVote is a non-partisan voting initiative that aims to increase voter turnout, particularly among young people, women, and people of color. This initiative is close to my heart and a big priority for me in 2020. Wanna join us
Throwing it back to the wonder years at prom when we thought we were sooo flyyy. When Ashanti was style goals, and Lil Bow Wow braids defined my “type.” 🤣 . (Swipe to see our prom hair-evolution, including that time @marciahamilton the now-celebrity-stylist who used to work in my Aunt Janet’s salon gave me royal blue streaks to match my royal blue prom dress. For senior prom it was FINGERWAVES for me and a full-on blowout for him...and you couldn’t tell us NOTHIN’! 😆🤯🤦🏽♀️ ) . The best part of going from kid to adult was discovering a sense of AGENCY, which at the time I was most excited to express through: 1. Getting to decide how I wanted to wear my hair, and 2. Getting to VOTE. If you’re a senior or a high school teacher, join @michelleobama ’s #PromChallenge with #WhenWeALLVote and tell us what you and your school are doing to register students to vote—you can win a free prom covered by @MTV . . Learn more at prom.mtv.com. And spread the word by posting your own #PromChallenge !
#NYFW ain’t no fun if the homies can’t have none. 🖤On the run, letting you caption this, fam...
Some nights just make you feel lucky to be alive. Last night was one of those nights. The #Oscars is a singular platform. It has the power to elevate human to hero. It takes creative talent to new levels of respect and visibility. It was my third time experiencing the magic of that legendary carpet ride and while it is an absolute charm to be a witness to anyone’s win, let’s hope next year it opens itself up to many more people of color and women whose work is equally deserving of this platform. . To my friend @cynthiaerivo YOU TOOK MY BREATH AWAY. . And on a lighter note, #glamfam y’all DID THE DAMN THING last night! It takes a village fr fr and I feel so lucky to have you as part of mine 💕 @alanawrightmakeup @kahhspence @ecduzit
Looking back at it 😉 while I prep for #OSCARS 2020! Can’t believe it’s been a whole year since this ponytail!! Feeling beyond blessed to be back again this year for red carpet coverage on one of my absolute favorite events of the year. It goes down LIVE 2-5p PST on @eentertainment . See you then, fam!! . P.S. Who are you looking forward to seeing tonight on the carpet?? . Should we bring the pony back tonight? 💁🏽♀️
This shoot is the embodiment of everything I’m focused on feeding: Collaboration. Creativity. Community. Respect. Black excellence. Shouts to all the creators of color—past present and future—who are committing to telling our own stories and doing it for the culture. We are our ancestors wildest dreams. Also, shouts to the all-black team of creators who rallied to make this non-model feel like a superhero for a day. Taking this energy into #BlackHistoryMonth and beyond. Grateful to @Target for creating space in their stores dedicated to black business owners and creators. Proud to share that you can find my book @morethanenough alongside a number of black-owned products in-stores and online all month long!! #BlackBeyondMeasure #TargetTalent Styling: @shibonleigh MU: @alanawrightmakeup Hair: @vernonfrancois Photo: @wa .deen

What you feed will grow. 🌱 . Love or hate. Good or evil. Faith or fear. Dreams or doubt. Unity or division. Accountability or blame. Moment by moment, the choice is ours. . What are you feeding? . Our words and deeds, our thoughts and dreams are seeds. Day by day, the garden of our life is growing. . What are you planting? . Place them, your seeds in fertile soil. Position them in the sunlight. Speak to them sweetly. Water them routinely. Encourage the buds. Love on them patiently. . For what you feed will grow. 🌱 . One of my resolutions is to be more powerfully PRESENT, which in turn has meant I’ve been noticeably tardy to the gram 🤷🏽♀️. (The trade-off has been well worth it. ) This picture has been burning a hole in my camera roll since Feb 1, but we felt cute so... . For the first day of #BlackHistoryMonth I got all glammed up in the backseat (took a steady hand to apply these lashes amidst NYC potholes ) to celebrate a new friend @alphonsodavid —the first black and openly gay man to lead the @humanrightscampaign —as he honored champions of LGBTQ rights. I got to see my friend @jodiepatterson , activist/author/mother/chair of the board take the stage looking like the superhero that she is. I got to breath the same air as @naomi . I got to watch @slaveplaybway playwright @jeremyoharris make the speech of the night on two hours of sleep. My heart swelled again and again to see so many people from different walks of life rally together behind a common fight for justice across different sexual preferences, genders, racial, and religious lines. Thank you for inviting me to participate in holding space for more unity, and less hate. We need more of that this year.
A cooking tutorial for beginners in the kitchen, like me. I lovingly dragged my ❤️ @jonathansingletary onto my IG to share his non-recipe-recipe for the dish that has kept me alive for the last 5 years of our relationship. The vegan dish he makes like magic whenever I bring work stress home, look in the fridge and say, “we have no food and no time to cook”—and it nourishes my whole soul every single time. . Disclaimer: This is not about performing perfection for Instagram. Neither of us are chefs. Our kitchen is messy. We don’t use the right knives. And I have no idea who #SaltBae is. But what I’ve learned a month into my new year’s resolution routine is that as long as your cooking comes from the heart, then, “You’re doing amazing, sweetie.” 😉 . For me, learning how to cook has been about spending more time and energy on nourishing myself and the people I love in #2020 . Because community, healthy partnerships, and service are bigger priorities in my life now. But fam, I still can’t find it in me to enter a grocery store IRL 😫. So, the major key I’ve discovered is ordering all your food, especially organic produce, online. (We bought all of this on @target dot come and it legit arrived in a few hours! ) . Shouts to the homie @gk_dp for coming over to eat and shoot this little act of service. I hope it inspires you to get in the kitchen, get messy, and spend some time nourishing yourself and your people this weekend. #TargetTalent ❤️

Live footage of me realizing there’s a whole entire snow storm outside, cancelling all my plans and embarking on the emotional roller coaster ride that is the latest episode of #projectrunwaybravo . I’m SHOOKeth...and if you’re watching you know why. 👀 . Ok, now your turn: caption this—best caption wins!
