The real family tradition
the leaves are all yellow and I learn that the ginko is so old / it doesn’t flower — never has.
Hard to capture how large and strange these trees looked, along the bike path and the creek in the evening mist. But for scale, there’s my dad on the right.
Ode to a scandal/city/river, followed by a prayer: As I fly less, I treasure it more. One of my favorite sights is coming in to land at National. The patterns of DC streets (meant to be viewed from the air not navigated on the ground thanks Lafayette ) the trees, the museums and monuments, the big wide Potomac, the Kennedy Center (that big rectangle ) and the Watergate (iconic circular hotel to its left ). Oh Watergate, may you soon be dwarfed by a larger and more famous impeachment scandal 😇. Amen.
Honored to celebrate the beautiful @adelaidiebee & her marriage to Zack Mufti, a la jungle.
A few more shots from yesterday. Walking up the hill towards the barricade with one of my idols ( @sunrisemvmt Auntie Rebecca Solnit ), painting a mural with @mona .caron whose work I so admire & holding the street all day with some of my favorite people! Who knew activism could be so nourishing and joyful? <3 . . . [Rhetorical question really, my bible is ‘Joyful Militancy’ & this was a perfect example of finding joy through growing our collective powers & casting off old systems. A barricade for a massive street mural — a crystal example of the connection between fierceness and love.]
Making the world we want to see in the streets. What a treat to get to contribute to one of the street murals! Designed and led by @mona .caron (Mona is the creator of one of my favorite murals of all time - the past present & future SF mural on Church st ).
We all make choices in our lives. What to focus on, what to dedicate our energies to, what is worth fighting for. For me, it’s this - a movement led by young people fighting for a livable future. I am honored to get to be at the front of the room sometimes & honored to be shoulder to shoulder with the people I admire and love. Some days are really hard. For me, today is one of those days. Good to remember how much power we are building, that it’s getting hard because we’re starting to win & that the sacrifices we all make will be worth it. #GreenNewDeal @sunrisemvmt
Dreamy purple sky, dreamy purple friends. Shabbat Shalom! 📸 @kenzief808
Behold my beautiful friend Sally, in the woods. So lucky to organize for a just world & a stable climate alongside this radiant human bean!
When I was in middle school a giant hurricane kept us in the house for 3 days straight. So my brother and I & our neighbor Krissy built a paper mache globe representing the storm, papered with related headlines. TL;DR: we’ve been making art about climate change since before we knew that’s what it was.
Gosh I love these people, even more so after 3 days on Tomales Bay & 3 hours in Vladimir’s Czechoslovakian Restaurant. We saw so much wildlife, mostly alive and thriving. Ask me sometime, though, about the gruesome sight of a cormorant’s corpse hanging by its neck from fishing line on hog island, tilting in the wind.

Why yes that is my friend @caylasharp Queen of the Renegade Set, DJing off a mobile cart in the middle of a rainstorm right after Ecstatic Dance.
