Armed conflict causes significant harm to the environment and the communities that depend on natural resources - as Agent Orange did in Viet Nam. On 8 July 2019 the International Law Commission adopted 28 draft legal principles to enhance protection of the environment before, during and after armed conflicts. This is a good step - a healthy environment is the foundation upon which peace and many human rights are realized. #environmentallaw

Africa’s unique diversity of wildlife 🦁 🦏🦒& habitats has the potential to transform⠀ the continent’s economy: nature-based tourism could improve the livelihoods of many people by creating jobs.⠀ ⠀ However, at present many governments are scaling back on protection because of limited budgets needed for other pressing public needs.⠀ ⠀ ➡For governments to gain the most of protected areas, they should create national tourism plans for protected areas and integrate them into the economic plans of the country.⠀ ⠀ / A report produced by Space for Giants Club and the UN Environment Programme⠀
Environmental disasters such as hurricanes 🌀🌀🌀 do not play out in a vacuum. ⠀ Social & economic factors dictate which countries & communities will be hardest hit.⠀ Increased flooding, for example, is not just caused by increased rainfall, but also by poor infrastructure. ⠀ ➡We must urgently find ways to effectively fight disasters through proper preparation. ⠀
